About
Why is the Home Exam Important?

In addition to completing a survey, participation in Add Health Wave VI involves taking part in a home exam. The home exam provides important information, measurements, and assessments that can only be collected in person by trained examiners. Blood drawn from the home exam helps Add Health researchers better understand the physical and cognitive well-being of adults in your age group. Participants who complete both the survey and the home exam provide Add Health with the most valuable information for our research, and have the opportunity to learn more about their own current health as well.
All participants who have submitted a complete Wave VI survey and who reside in the United States are eligible to take part in a Wave VI home exam.
How Does the Home Exam Work?

Participating in the Add Health Wave VI home exam is simple. After you agree to participate, an ExamOne scheduler will reach out to figure out a time for your appointment that works best for you. Once a date and time has been scheduled, you will receive reminders about your upcoming exam as it approaches.
During your home exam, you will be asked some questions about your recent health and medication use. You will also be asked to provide health measurements and a blood sample. You may decline any portion of the home exam at any time during your appointment.
What Should I Do to Prepare?
There are a few things to do to prepare for your home exam. The day before your exam, you will gather all bottles of medications you take regularly as well as a form of identification (ID) and your COVID-19 Vaccine Card(s). We ask that you fast — refrain from consuming any foods or drinks other than water — 9 hours prior to your exam. Typically, scheduling your exam in the mornings makes this part easier to stomach!
